Whether it is a personal computer or an office system, we used to store most of our day to day work in the hard drive and if due to any reason, the hard drive goes bad, all our data in the drive gets lost or inaccessible. Most of the computer users think that when a file is deleted from the hard drive, it is removed forever. There is no mean to retrieve the deleted or lost files from Mac OS X hard drive. In fact, it is not true. The lost or deleted files are still there on your Mac OS X hard drive and can be recovered using appropriate Mac undelete software.
Mac OS X creates index of all the file on hard drive, in file system. Every file has entries in the file system index, which include file name, file location, file size, and file type. When a file is accessed from the hard drive, the index is accessed by the operating system. Operating system reads the storage location of the file and extract it.

Intel and Power PC Macs use different native schemes. Where Intel-based Mac systems are compatible with Apple_partition_scheme, Power PC-based Mac can only be used with GUID_partition_scheme. These incompatibility issues can create data loss situations. Hence to recover the lost data, you need to use Mac Data Recovery utilities. When a user tries to install Mac OS X on a hard disk that is connected to an Intel-based Mac system, an error message may be encountered as:”You cannot install Mac OS X on this volume.
Mac OS X cannot start up from this volume”The reason behind the error message is Mac OS X installer. User even fails to select the disk in such cases. It happens because of non-native hard disk partitioning scheme with respect to system processor. Though operating system gets installed on a volume, but the issue is hard disk partitioning scheme. Thus to solve the issue, we need to repartition the hard disk using GUID_partition_scheme.

For those who have their own Mac computer, learning how to do Macintosh data recovery is essential.
